Advent is the period of four Sundays leading up to Christmas.  It is a season of watching, waiting, and preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. 

Advent reminds us that this world, messed up as it is, matters.  Our lives, broken as they are, matter. Each of them.  Our lives matter not just to us, they ultimately matter to God.  “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.”

Advent is our annual reminder that we are not forgotten.  God knows us and loves us. God honours our humanness.  God enters into our humanness in the birth of Jesus. So, we wait, pregnant with hope, longing for Christ Jesus to come and touch our lives with Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
