Advent is the period of four Sundays leading up to Christmas. It is a season of watching, waiting, and preparing for the coming of Christ into the world.

Each year, Advent reminds us that this world, messed up as it is, matters. Our lives, broken as they are, matter. We matter to God. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.”

In this season, we remember how God embraced our humanity in the birth of Jesus. That gives us hope as we watch for signs of his coming into our lives here and now. And that keeps us waiting, anticipating that day when he will come again in glory to make all things new.

“Come, Lord Jesus, touch our hearts with hope, peace, joy, and love.”
